Visa Interview Experience:

OFC appointment
The whole process is very smooth. There are people at every step to guide you. They take your biometrics and stick a bar code sticker on your passport.
Docs needed- Passport, DS-160, Appointment confirmation

Next Day- Visa interview
I went in at 10:00 am and was out by 11:30 am.
1 approval and 2 rejections in front of me. VO was in her late 20s. One official had already taken my I-20 and passport and submitted to her before my turn even came.

ME: Hi
VO: (busy typing on her PC) I cannot see your SEVIS receipt. Give me a second. (Murmuring stuff)

VO: So I see you are working at XYZ Ltd. What is your salary?
ME:
When I joined XYZ Ltd., my starting salary was ×××/annum. I got an increment last year. So now it is ××××/annum.

VO: When did you finish your graduation?
ME:
2015

VO: What have you been doing since then?
ME:
I have been working at XYZ Ltd. as an Assistant Manager since then.

VO: So I see you are going to Texas A &M University? Which other colleges did you apply to?
ME:
OSU, NEU and NCSU (Told the full names)

VO: Why does Texas win?
ME:
My long term career goal is to design an industrial process which is completely autonomous and works without human intervention. And the course curriculum at TAMU perfectly aligns (VO interfered)

VO: How does that work?
ME:
It is basically an integration of traditional ways of manufacturing and, automation and digitisation.

VO: What's your GRE Score?
ME:
320

VO: Undergrad score?
ME:
9.2

VO: Did you top your class then?
ME:
No ma'am. We had different batches in our college. I topped my batch of Mechanical Engineering students. 9.8 was the highest CGPA in our college.

VO: Tell me about your savings.
ME:
I have personal savings of $8000 and family savings of $24k.

VO: Can you tell in lacs?
ME:
(I had remembered everything in dollars. I quickly multiplied by 60, took my time) Personal savings of around 5 lacs and family savings of 13 lacs approx.

VO: Have you taken any loan?
ME:
Yes ma'am. I have taken a loan of $33k, which is equivalent to my I-20 amount.

VO: Can I see your loan letter and bank transaction statements?
ME:
(Handed over the docs to her)

VO: Is this loan confirmed?
ME:
Yes ma'am.
(She went inside with the letter to confirm, I guess. She came back after 5 minutes or so)

VO: (puts on her microphones, taking her time) Congratulations! Your visa has been issued.

ME: Wow! Thank you ma'am.
VO: Study hard and please bring your I-20 at your port of entry. You will need it.
